Deep at its heart, the problem is not really new. You need to be stupid to deliberately put all the eggs in a single basket. But this is what our elites have done — and not only in the case of the pharmaceuticals. Interestingly, when the common man showed some disagreement, surprise or criticism, a lot of enlightened politicians and journalists shouted at once: shut up, you ignorant, populist and idiot foe of human progress!
